Finding the right flooring for aircraft hangars can be difficult. The sheer weight of planes and equipment often rules out many options, as well as the size of the hangar. A major issue is concrete moisture. With such a large space, it often takes the concrete a significant amount of time to dry.
With today’s fast-paced construction schedule, it’s very likely the concrete will not be dry enough when it’s time to install the vinyl flooring system. Concrete typically takes about 30 days to cure, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the concrete is hard enough to coat. There is a big difference between cure time and dry time. A six-inch slab could take up to six months before it’s dry enough to coat. In this situation, it is necessary to apply a moisture remediation system. Our REV M.V.P. (Moisture Vapor Protection) coating allows coating over 24 hour old concrete.
Before moving forward with a seamless flooring system in an aircraft hangar, it is important to have a conversation with the customer about potential setbacks regarding concrete moisture as many in the aerospace industry are unaware of these issues. You can educate them that without a moisture remediation system the concrete could crumble and erode under the coating, creating an unsteady floor.
When selecting aircraft hangar flooring, it is important that the coating is durable. Our Hybrid XT and 6.0 High Performance Epoxy are both excellent choices. Planes require regular maintenance, which means lots of grease, water, and other things ending up on the floors. The V-8 hybrid floors are easy to clean and do not yellow, which makes for an excellent display of the planes in in the hangar. Our 6.0 High Performance Epoxy also has excellent chemical resistance.
V-8 hybrid floors can be installed at 0º Fahrenheit, a necessity in often unheated aerospace hangars. These floors are built to last, and can withstand the weight of huge aircrafts over many years.
With the proper considerations of concrete moisture, a beautiful floor can be installed in an aircraft hangar, even in low temperatures. Installing a V-8 High Performance Floor is an excellent choice for any aerospace building especially aircraft hangars.
