After a 16-year career in civil engineering, Chris Becker was looking for a career change. A friend introduced him to the concrete floor business and soon thereafter Chris struck out on his own with Epoxy Co.
Getting started presented a common problem … and a unique opportunity.
“I discovered I was allergic to the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in many flooring products,” said Chris. “At the same time, I found out that V-8 High Performance Floor Coatings [by Xtreme Engineered Floor Systems] were much more user-friendly. Created six years ago, Epoxy Co. has concentrated on concrete floor coatings and floor removals. But like most small businesses, they are looking to expand.
“We’re now branching out into concrete polishing,” said Chris. “So, it’s back to the [contractor] portal on the V-8 website. The online training videos posted there are getting us up to speed on this opportunity for new revenues.”

“We have two crews on the road covering much of Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota,” says Chris. “Our project mix is 50%/50% commercial and residential. We’re installing 10,000 to 15,000 sq. ft. of concrete flooring each month. Some of the projects are referrals from V-8. From day one, our relationship with V-8 has been great. Whether it’s training, flooring products or tech support, they treat people right. I’m sold.”
